Compare with Definitions
Frequency
Frequency is the number of occurrences of a repeating event per unit of time. It is also occasionally referred to as temporal frequency to emphasize the contrast to spatial frequency, and ordinary frequency to emphasize the contrast to angular frequency.
Amplitude
The amplitude of a periodic variable is a measure of its change in a single period (such as time or spatial period). There are various definitions of amplitude (see below), which are all functions of the magnitude of the differences between the variable's extreme values.
Frequency
The rate at which something occurs over a particular period of time or in a given sample
An increase in the frequency of accidents due to increased overtime
Amplitude
Greatness of size; magnitude.
Frequency
The rate per second of a vibration constituting a wave, either in a material (as in sound waves), or in an electromagnetic field (as in radio waves and light)
Different thicknesses of glass will absorb different frequencies of sound

Amplitude
Fullness; copiousness.
Frequency
The property or condition of occurring at frequent intervals.
Amplitude
Breadth or range, as of intelligence.
Frequency
The number of repetitions of a complete sequence of values of a periodic function per unit variation of an independent variable.
Amplitude
(Astronomy) The angular distance along the horizon from true east or west to the intersection of the vertical circle of a celestial body with the horizon.
Frequency
The number of complete cycles of a periodic process occurring per unit time.
Amplitude
(Physics) The maximum absolute value of a periodically varying quantity.
Frequency
The number of repetitions per unit time of a complete waveform, as of an electric current.
Amplitude
The maximum absolute value of a periodic curve measured along its vertical axis.
Frequency
The number of measurements or observations having a certain value or characteristic.
Amplitude
The angle made with the positive horizontal axis by the vector representation of a complex number.
Frequency
See relative frequency.
Amplitude
(Electronics) The maximum absolute value reached by a voltage or current waveform.
Frequency
The rate of occurrence of anything; the relationship between incidence and time period.
With growing confidence, the Viking’s raids increased in frequency.
Amplitude
The measure of something's size, especially in terms of width or breadth; largeness, magnitude.
Frequency
(uncountable) The property of occurring often rather than infrequently.
Amplitude
(mathematics) The maximum absolute value of the vertical component of a curve or function, especially one that is periodic.
Frequency
(countable) The quotient of the number of times a periodic phenomenon occurs over the time in which it occurs: .
Amplitude
(physics) The maximum absolute value of some quantity that varies.
Frequency
(statistics) number of times an event occurred in an experiment (absolute frequency)
Amplitude
(astronomy) The arc of the horizon between the true east or west point and the center of the sun, or a star, at its rising or setting. At the rising, the amplitude is eastern or ortive: at the setting, it is western, occiduous, or occasive. It is also northern or southern, when north or south of the equator.
Frequency
The condition of returning frequently; occurrence often repeated; common occurence; as, the frequency of crimes; the frequency of miracles.
The reasons that moved her to remove were, because Rome was a place of riot and luxury, her soul being almost stifled with, the frequencies of ladies' visits.
Amplitude
(astronomy) The arc of the horizon between the true east or west point and the foot of the vertical circle passing through any star or object.
Frequency
A crowd; a throng.
Amplitude
(firearms) The horizontal line which measures the distance to which a projectile is thrown; the range.
Frequency
The number of occurrences within a given time period (usually 1 second);
The frequency of modulation was 40 cycles per second
Amplitude
State of being ample; extent of surface or space; largeness of dimensions; size.
The cathedral of Lincoln . . . is a magnificent structure, proportionable to the amplitude of the diocese.
Frequency
The ratio of the number of observations in a statistical category to the total number of observations
Amplitude
Largeness, in a figurative sense; breadth; abundance; fullness.
Frequency
The number of observations in a given statistical category
Amplitude
The arc of the horizon between the true east or west point and the center of the sun, or a star, at its rising or setting. At the rising, the amplitude is eastern or ortive: at the setting, it is western, occiduous, or occasive. It is also northern or southern, when north or south of the equator.
Amplitude
The horizontal line which measures the distance to which a projectile is thrown; the range.
Amplitude
The extent of a movement measured from the starting point or position of equilibrium; - applied especially to vibratory movements.
Amplitude
An angle upon which the value of some function depends; - a term used more especially in connection with elliptic functions.
Amplitude
(physics) the maximum displacement of a periodic wave
Amplitude
The property of copious abundance
Amplitude
Greatness of magnitude
